Visiting Academic Colleagues
Overview & Eligibility
Individuals not employed by UNM can be sponsored by an academic unit under the Visiting Academic Colleague affiliate role. In such cases, a formal Letter of Academic Title is not necessary.
Visiting Academic Colleague affiliate roles are granted in renewable 13-month terms. This role is non-continuing, meaning there is no expectation of renewal upon term expiration. If the sponsoring academic unit does not actively seek renewal, the affiliation will automatically expire at the end of the stated term."
Process for Requesting/Renewing a Visiting Academic Colleague Affiliate Role
To request the Visiting Academic Colleague affiliate role:
- Complete the Affiliate Request Form in HR Reports
- See the instructions for additional guidance on using the Affiliate Request
Upon submission of the Affiliate Request Form the requestor will receive a confirmation email confirming the submission.
Approval
Once the affiliate request has been approved, the requestor will receive confirmation of the assigned affiliation. For new affiliates, the requestor will also receive an email from faculty@unm.edu with the affiliate’s UNM ID number.
Using their UNM ID number, the affiliate may establish a UNM NetID. through https://netid.unm.edu/. This will provide access to UNM’s systems, including email.
